Gayatri Mantra is a jaap that almost all of us have heard somewhere or the other if not at home. It is a rather easy mantra to chant and has a comforting sound to it. This mantra is said to affect your jagrut (waking), swapna (dream) and sushupt (deep sleep), the three states of consciousness.
It is believed to be highly meritorious to chant Gayatri Mantra three times during the day, in the morning when the sun rises, at noon when Sun reaches its apex and in the evening when the Sun sets. Gayatri Mantra is one that unites the individual with the Supreme Power, the Almighty.
You can chant Gayatri mantra any time of the day but this mantra should be chanted in Bramha Muhrat that is in the morning between 4 am to 5 am as well as at the night before sleeping. Take a Sphatik Mala or any rosary and chant Gayatri Mantra 108 times.
When is the best time to chant Gayatri Mantra ? Satva is the best time to chant the Gayatri Mantra. Hence, the Gayatri Mantra should be recited between 4 am and 8 am and 4 pm and 8 am.
Light an oil lamp. Then keep a Kalash and another small vessel containing water. Then take a small amount of water in your left hand from the other vessel and while chant the following Mantra, sprinkle it all over your body with the right hand. This process is called Pavitikaran.
The Brahma-Gayatri Mantra has twenty-four Aksharas. So, one Gayatri-Purascharana constitutes the repetition or Japa of Gayatri Mantra 24 lakh times. There are various rules for Purascharana. If you repeat the Mantra 3,000 times daily, you should keep up the number daily all throughout till you finishthe full 24 lakhs.
